Recipe: Grandma's Lettuce Salad

Misc.
I also remember a creamy dressing like this served with leaf lettuce from the garden. This recipe is from Betty Crocker 1956. Evaporated milk was used as a substitute for light cream quite a lot back then. This may be pretty close to what you remember. Even though there is no specification, the recipe was generally made with light cream.

Grandma's Lettuce Salad

Cut or tear into a large bowl 4 cups crisp cold leaf lettuce. Toss with a mixture of 1/2 cup cream, 1-1 1/2 tablespoons sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 3 to 4 tablespoons vinegar.
