NUT BALL COFFEE CAKE
1/3 cup brown sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts 1 1/2 cups flour 3 tablespoons sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/3 cup shortening 1/3 cup milk 1 egg, slightly beaten 3 tablespoons butter, melted
Combine brown sugar, cinnamon and nuts; set aside.
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Cut in shortening until particles are fine. Add milk and egg; beat thoroughly.
Drop a well rounded teaspoonful of dough first in melted butter, then in brown sugar mixture. Roll to coat. Place balls close together in 8-inch square or round pan.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
