NO-KNEAD KOLACKY
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 cup water, divided use
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
3/4 cup scalded milk
1 egg
4 cups flour, sifted
Prunes or apricots, pitted
Nuts, chopped
Add 1 package of yeast dissolved as directed on package using a portion of the 1/2 cup water. Mix well.
Combine shortening, sugar, salt and scalded milk. Cool to lukewarm by adding remaining water.
Stir in 1 egg. Add gradually, 4 cups sifted flour. Mix until well blended.
Roll out on well floured board to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2 inch cutter. Place on greased baking sheet. Let rise in warm place until double in bulk.
Press indentation in center of each bun. Place a pitted, cooked prune or apricot dipped in chopped nuts in each indentation.
Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees 20 minutes.
Combine: 4 tsp. warm milk and 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Drip over warm kolacky.
