Mary, I know for a fact that this recipe is WONDERFUL! My sister-in-law's sister brought these to Christmas dinner some years back and none of us could get enough of them. They are outstanding!
TERYL’S WONDERFUL CARAMELS
1 cup margarine or butter 2 1/4 cups brown sugar dash salt 1 cup light Karo syrup 15 ounces sweetened condensed milk 2 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate (optional) 1 teaspoon vanilla
Melt butter in 3 qt. heavy saucepan. Add brown sugar and salt. Stir well. Blend in karo and milk. (May add 2 squares unsweetened chocolate after adding the milk if desired.)
Heat, stirring constantly over medium heat to 245 degrees F.
Stir in vanilla. Pour into 13x9 pan. Cool. Chill.
Cut into squares. Wrap individually in waxed paper. |
