MOLASSES CRINKLES

1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup vegetable shortening
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt

Mix first 4 ingredients; stir in remaining ingredients. Chill dough in refrigerator 2-4 hours.

WHEN READY TO BAKE:
Roll dough into balls - the size of walnuts; dip tops in sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 375 degrees F on the top rack for 10-12 minutes.
