SLICE AND BAKE BROWNIE ROUNDS

"Slice these cookies a full 3/8-inch thick for a rich brownie flavor."

1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup Land 0 Lakes butter, softened
1 cup (6 ounces) Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet chocolate Morsels, melted and cooled
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup (4 1/2 ounces) Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Morsels
1/4 cup large grain sugar, if desired (for garnish)

Combine sugar and butter in large mixer bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy (1 to 2 minutes).

Add melted morsels, egg and vanilla; continue beating until well mixed (1 to 2 minutes).

Reduce speed to low; add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Beat until well mixed (1 to 2 minutes). Stir in mini morsels by hand.

Divide dough in half; shape each half into 12-inch long roll. Wrap each roll in plastic food wrap; refrigerate until firm (1 to 2 hours).

Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

Cut rolls into 3/8-inch slices with sharp knife. Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle cookies with large grain sugar, if desired.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Let stand 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets. Cool completely.

NOTES:
Once called icebox cookies because they could be kept on hand in an icebox, slice-and-bake cookies remain the finest in convenience. For best results, divide the dough as specified in the recipe and make the designated length frequently to avoid flattening one of rolls. As you cut the rolls, rotate side. If a recipe makes more than one roll, remove only one from the refrigerator at a time.
