Recipe: Italian Hamburger Deep Dish (using instant mashed potatoes, 1970's)

Main Dishes - Beef and Other Meats
ITALIAN HAMBURGER DEEP DISH

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
Potato Buds mashed potatoes (enough for 8 servings)
2 tbsp. instant minced onions
1 tsp. oregano leaves
4 tomatoes, peeled and sliced
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 12x7x2-inch baking dish, or a 2-quart casserole dish.

Cook and stir ground beef, salt, pepper, and garlic in saucepan until beef is browned; drain.

Prepare mashed potatoes in 3 quart saucepan as directed on package for 8 servings; stir in onion and oregano.

Layer half each of the potato mixture, beef mixture, tomatoes, and cheese in baking dish; repeat.

Bake uncovered 30 minutes.

Makes 6-8 servings
