Sesame Ginger Hummus (using prepared hummus)

"An inspired drizzle of toasted sesame oil, a significant swirl of chopped ginger, and a hint of cardamom coax this hummus from its Middle Eastern roots and give it a Far Eastern disguise. The lemon and garlic in the hummus turn out to be a natural background for the Asian ingredients, and the richness of the sesame oil blends seamlessly with the creaminess of the hummus. Make sure you use dark, toasted Asian sesame oil. Untoasted sesame oil, which looks more like vegetable oil, does not have enough flavor."

1 (8 ounce) container hummus
1 teaspoon Asian toasted sesame oil
2 teaspoons chopped ginger, jarred or fresh
1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom

Combine the hummus, sesame oil, ginger, and cardamom. Serve with flatbread, vegetables, apples, or pears for dipping.

Makes 6 servings (about 1 cup)
