I've had vine peach preserves

Misc.
Years ago-and I do mean many years-I had vine peach preserves and it was a wonderful and memorable experience. As I remember, it was indeed very much like the taste of what I later came to know as mango, with a hint of citrus, much like passion fruit. They were preserved whole, but cooked until they were quite soft-with only a hint of crunchy texture. they were the best preserves I've ever tasted with the possible exception of wild strawberry.

I believe there may have been just a hint of cinnamon and probably a bit of lemon peel to launch the flavor. They were done in heavy syrup and probably by the French method of repeated boilings and coolings in sugar syrup. They are small-hardly as large as a passion fruit. I inquired of the very ancient lady who had made them if she had a recipe but she had forgotten it, if it ever existed. She is now deceased.

There are French preserves that include it, but I have yet to find it preserved alone.
